Let’s be honest, for you to ask “how to get back in shape” and then read this article is a little counterproductive. You aren’t going to get back in shape by sitting down at your computer all day reading about fitness; however, before you storm off to a different, more comforting website let me have my say.
At some point in every athlete’s life they had to make the decision at least once to start working out…right? What causes a person to want to be in shape? Health, boredom, probably sex but whatever your reason is you have to own it and keep it with you. Why should you workout? Because you have a reason to. If you don’t then continue being below-average and have a nice life.
You’re still here!
You’re still here, great. So once you’ve figured out why you want to workout, how are you to go about doing it? What do you like to do is the real question. Are you a biker, swimmer, runner, librarian? Pick something you like to do because otherwise you’ll never get back in shape.
Having trouble thinking of something you enjoy? Do you enjoy music? Listen to that while you workout it really does wonders for motivation.
If you’ve thought of something, now it is time to set goals for yourself. Those goals can be physical goals such as weight, or simply time goals such as exercising for 30 minutes a day. Whatever the goal is you need to write it down and put it somewhere you’ll see it everyday. Like the refrigerator…that way when you don’t do it every body (or just you) will be able to notice.
Before I started really lifting weights and making an effort to be in shape, I was always going in and out of workout routines. I would workout for 2 weeks on and then 1 month off. It was terrible. But eventually as I grew up and matured I learned that good things really don’t come without a cost.
To get back in shape will cost something..
Your time and energy. (and lots of sweat) mmm
But besides perhaps breathing, fitness is one of the safest investments out there today. Why wouldn’t you go all in on such a safe investment in your health? Oh yea…because you’re lazy…?
Many people are lazy, too many people. People that aren’t lazy get noticed, get recognized, go on to do amazing things with their lives. Do you think those people can work up the motivation to get back in shape? Probably every single one of them.
Don’t think of me as the guy writing this article to yell at you…think of me as that voice inside of you that has been saying these things your whole life.
Are you finally going to listen?
